Utility Locator Technician

Strata Networks is accepting applications for an Underground Utility Locator Technician in the Heber/Lehi area. The Locator Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking buried fiber optic, phone, and CATV cables by referencing utility prints and using specific locating equipment. The technician must be flexible to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions, able to succeed under stressful situations, and professionally conduct themselves at all times. The candidate must also be motivated to work independently and demonstrate good time management skills to plan and accomplish the assigned workload as required.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Read and understand utility maps, prints, and aerial imagery to assist in identifying underground assets.
  • Prioritize work activities by reviewing all locate requests to determine travel routes and timelines.
  • Operate handheld detection equipment.
  • Mark the location of underground fiber, phone, and CATV assets on roadways, private property, and other areas, as appropriate and needed, using required spray paints, flags, and other equipment.
  • Ability to work in confined space
  • Knowledge of Utah state laws
  • Knowledge of APWA uniform color code and marking guidelines
  • Accurately and consistently wear safety gear, and operate safety equipment, provided
  • Daily contact with supervisor, crews, homeowners, and contractors discussing locate issues
  • Work on-call hours
  • Perform outside plant route maintenance activities, which include digging holes for posts, running ground wires, placing ground rods, and removing and replacing marker signs.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver's license, drive extensively
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work professionally in a diverse and stressful environment
  • Complete and document work activities using a laptop computer and transmit completed tickets on a timely basis to the company's ticket management system
  • Good communication skills with managers, contractors, utility representatives, and homeowners.
  • Be able to pass drug screening.
