STRATA to Sponsor Local Students to Tour Washington, D.C.

Six local high school students have been selected by STRATA to attend the 2022 Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. this June. This group of students will get the opportunity to tour the Nation’s capital for four days while exploring America’s rich history and learning about government processes and the importance of rural telecommunications.

The students selected to attend this year’s tour are Mackenzie Lamb (Union High School), Jocelyn Miles (Union High School), Aspen Thacker (Altamont High School), Taylor Thomas (Tabiona High School), Quinton McKee (Uintah High School), Jennette Turnbow (Tabiona High School).

Not only will these students have the opportunity to visit some of the most well-known historical sites, but they will get to attend educational sessions on topics covering the telecommunications industry, including how it is affected by legislative and regulatory decisions and how it enhances the quality of life and opportunities in rural America. They will also get to experience an unprecedented out-of-classroom venture while networking with industry leaders and members of Congress.

“The FRS Youth Tour is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Each year, we look forward to giving local students the chance to experience it,” said STRATA Networks General Manager/CEO Bruce Todd. “It is extremely valuable for young people to know how rural areas like ours can have a bigger voice in America. This tour is a chance for them to better understand that process while also learning about our country’s rich history.”

The purpose of the FRS Youth Tour is to promote, educate, and advocate rural telecommunications issues to the public to help sustain and enhance the quality of life within communities throughout rural America. All participants require a sponsorship through the National Telecommunication Cooperative Association (NTCA), of which STRATA Networks is a member. For students to be eligible to attend the FRS Youth Tour through STRATA, their parent/guardian must be a member of the cooperative. For more information, visit stratanetworks.com/frs-tour.
