STRATA Sponsors "Hunger Project" to Help Local Families in Need

On July 17th, approximately 200 volunteers gathered to assemble nearly 30,000 meal kits that were donated to people within the Uintah Basin that are in need. The service project, referred to as a “Hunger Project,” was sponsored by STRATA Networks and planned in partnership with JustServe, an organization that helps to provide service opportunities for different communities. Representatives from U.S. Hunger, a nationwide hunger relief organization, traveled to Roosevelt to facilitate the service project.

By the end of the project, 28,224 meals were assembled and donated to several organizations across the Uintah Basin who help provide support to those in need including: food pantries, Ute Tribe, several local churches, Friends Against Family Violence, Thompsen House of Hope, and the Children’s Justice Center.

“Serving in the community is always a wonderful experience but knowing the service you are rendering is for children and families within our own area is such an honor,” said JustServe representative Danette Garrard. “My favorite part of the project was watching people coming together as a team. Perfect strangers bonding together to serve these unknown faces that are suffering from hunger. We’ve heard it said that the volunteer often gets more from the service than the recipient of the project. We recognize that to be true on so many levels. We live in an area of love and acceptance of each other, and we are, indeed, honored to serve along the very finest.”

The project invited STRATA employees and family members to donate their time and energy alongside volunteers from the community.  In 2019, STRATA sponsored their inaugural Service Day where close to 100 volunteers worked together on several community improvement projects across different areas of the Uintah Basin. According to STRATA, last year’s pandemic prevented them from hosting a similar project in 2020, so they were happy that situations have improved this year to allow them to come together to serve the community again.

“Supporting our local communities is something that goes back to STRATA’s roots and will always be a part of who STRATA is,” said Tyler Rasmussen, STRATA’s Director of Business Development. “It was very rewarding to come together as employees, families, and neighbors to all work towards a common goal of helping people within our own community. We are extremely appreciative of the employees and many volunteers who donated their Saturday to contribute to this cause and we look forward to continuing on with this tradition.”
