Local gamers competed in a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate doubles tournament hosted by STRATA Networks last Friday. Sixteen teams competed in a double elimination style tournament until one winning team emerged, taking home a $300 grand prize. Second and third place teams left the tournament as winners as well, also being awarded cash prizes.
The tournament was held at the STRATA Networks building in Roosevelt and spectators were welcome to come and watch. Those interested in the tournament but not able to attend could also watch via a live stream through Twitch, one of the most popular streaming platforms for gamers. The event drew players of varying levels of experience from all across the Basin, and good sportsmanship was shown by all in attendance. The winning team consisted of William Robertson and Jase Pennock; the second-place team consisted of Benjamin Anderson and Caleb Anderson; and the third-place winners were Zachery Carleton and Derek Powell.
This is the fourth STRATA Gaming Series event that has been held in the Uintah Basin. Their inaugural event featured a Call of Duty: Black Ops III tournament that brought together nearly 400 gamers and spectators from around the area. Since then, the STRATA Gaming Series has hosted gaming tournaments that have included a variety of popular games like Overwatch, Call of Duty: WWII, Rocket League, and Hearthstone.
